Understanding Jurisdiction & Authority In-Person

Having taken Citation: The Language of Law, you now have a better understanding of how to read and write legal citations. But, while you may now know what is being cited, and, even, how to cite material you have found, are you confident that you also know the relative values of those materials in relation to your specific issue in a specific jurisdiction? This knowledge is vital because the same case or other source could be mandatory authority in some instances and merely persuasive authority in others (Some sources are always only persuasive).

This class is intended to start you on a better understanding of the interrelated concepts of jurisdiction & authority.
